Quick answer
For early sulphur, swim southeast from the Lifepod toward the rocky pillar near Coral Crabs, past the Welcome Center route. Current launch-build reports place small sulphur pickups and larger deposits around that pillar, roughly 200 meters out and around 25 meters deep.
How to collect it safely
Sulphur is easy to mistake for gold, so check the route and recipe before assuming you found the wrong material. Pick up small pieces by hand, then return with the Sonic Resonator for larger deposits.
- Bring the Sonic Resonator if you want to mine in bulk.
- Stay out of hotter volcanic water until you have heat tolerance.
- Treat the Coral Crab area as a short collection route, not a long exploration route.
- Keep inventory space for sulfur, salt, and other nearby pickups.
Fast sulphur route for Repair Tool
Use this route when the Repair Tool recipe is the immediate blocker. The goal is one reliable sulphur pickup, not a full volcanic expedition.
- From the Lifepod, swim southeast past the Welcome Center route toward the open seabed pillar.
- Use Coral Crabs, a rock pillar, and the nearby science platform as route cues.
- Search around the pillar at roughly shallow-to-mid starter depth for yellowish sulphur crystals.
- Pick up loose sulphur first; mine larger deposits only after the Sonic Resonator is available.
- Leave once the Repair Tool material need is solved, then use the tool to open blocked wreck doors.
Sulphur and gold difference
Sulphur and gold can both look yellow at a glance, but they belong to different early routes.
- Sulphur route: southeast pillar near Coral Crabs, useful for Repair Tool and Strong Acid chains.
- Gold route: east volcanic vent region near the crashed colony ship, best after Heat Tolerance.
- If you are still near the Welcome Center and Coral Crabs, expect sulphur or salt before gold.
- If you are taking heat damage, you are likely pushing toward gold or volcanic progression too early.
What sulphur is used for
Sulphur matters because it connects early repair progress to later material chains. The first pressure point is usually the Repair Tool.
- Repair Tool crafting.
- Strong Acid recipes with gold.
- Advanced Wiring Kit and later tool/base chains.
- Wreck access indirectly, because the Repair Tool opens blocked doors.
When to return with Sonic Resonator
The first sulphur trip should be short. After the Sonic Resonator is crafted, return to the pillar and nearby deposits when you need stronger acid or advanced material chains.
- Return for larger sulphur deposits only after the mining tool is available.
- Combine the second trip with salt collection because the routes are close together.
- Do not stay in the area if oxygen pressure or hostile movement turns the return path uncertain.

Sulphur FAQ
Where is the first sulphur route?
Start southeast of the Lifepod near the rock pillar by Coral Crabs. Current launch-build notes place small sulphur pickups and larger Sonic Resonator deposits there.
Is sulphur the same as sulfur in item codes?
The material is often spelled sulphur in guides, but current item-code reports use sulfur as the internal ID.
